Audio Books: The Fun Way Enjoy Books For Learning Or Pleasure

Some people prefer to listen to books rather than reading them. If you are on the road and have a long commute, books on tape are a great way to pass the time and you may learn something. Audio books are a booming industry and are growing into sales of millions and even billions.

Audio books are enticing because you can listen to them in your car, at home, school, and work or on an airplane, almost anywhere. They have become a very popular resource for the visually impaired and for people with physical disabilities who may not be able to read a book. The books generally are stored on cassette tapes or compact discs.

They are a great way to teach children how to read. If children listen to the tapes they will learn words and sentence structure. Also, the stories will spark their imagination and creative thinking.

There are websites that offer free audio services to the blind. Some websites offer audio services and the actual author of the book narrates it. Depending on the book and the website, there may be an entire production with music and actors playing different roles in the book.

Most audio books sold today are on compact discs. This makes the book very portable as people can listen to it in their car. This is a great opportunity for people who travel.

They are available on websites to download. Some publishers offer them to promote a book or as a service. The sites that are set up for public domain offer books that can be downloaded for free. It is just a matter of downloading the file to an Ipod or MP3 player.

The library is a great resource for books on tape as they are loaned for free sometimes up to 2-3 weeks. Also, depending on your library and available resources you may be able to special order a book or request a particular one that you are interested in.

The availability of almost any book including science fiction, fantasy, self help, diet, exercise, philosophy, psychology, art, foreign language, or medieval times can be found on an audio tape. There are also websites that specialize in different genres and may offer hard to find, unique books that cannot be obtained elsewhere.

The other great advantage to audio books is that you can multi task. You can carry it around with you on your Ipod and listen while you are at the gym or bike riding. And, if you have to stop and interrupt the story, you can always stop it and play it back. If you are interested in taking notes, you can stop it and make mental notes or jot down ideas as you listen.
